hope

i decided that my counter-apocalyptic activity of the day would be planting bulbs.
(for more on the counter-apocalyptic, see catherine keller's "apocalypse now and then: a feminist guide to the end of the world.")

it felt good.

i'm liking having soil to garden in.

This is the second time in two days bulbs have come up as a sign of hope in my universe. I visited a woman yesterday who is facing a long recovery in a convalescent hospital and read her a letter from a relative in Ohio who lives on land that was once the family farm. She wrote that she was about to plant bulbs, and we celebrated in conversation and prayer that there was hope for new life on the farm.

Are Garden Gnomes part of the counter-apocalyptic movement? I sure hope so, because you know you're getting some from us!
